Sec 2 Math Tuition in Singapore

Small Sec 2 Math classes at our Katong and Hougang centres, for students taking Math at G3 or G2. Sec 2 is the algebra year: six of its fifteen chapters are algebra, and they are the ones Sec 3 E-Math and A-Math are built on. We teach each chapter in MOE's order, in the format your child's school tests use.

Who this class is for

  • Sec 2 students taking Math at G3 or G2 whose Sec 1 results were fine, but who are finding factorisation, quadratics and algebraic fractions a different kind of hard.
  • Sec 2 students who want A-Math in Sec 3. Schools decide on A-Math from Sec 2 results, and the algebra chapters are where that mark comes from.
  • Sec 2 G2 students aiming to move up to G3 Math, who need to see where the G3 class is going.
  • Sec 1 students moving into Sec 2 who want to start the algebra chapters before school does. Our 2027 Sec 2 classes begin in November 2026.

What Sec 2 Math covers

Sec 2 Math (SEAB 4052 for G3, 4045 for G2) runs algebra for most of the first half of the year, then turns to proportion, similarity, Pythagoras' theorem and the first trigonometry, and ends with mensuration, probability and statistics. We teach the chapters in this order, which matches MOE's sequence and the order most schools test them in.

Schools set their own Weighted Assessments (WAs). The grouping above is how we prepare for them and matches the order most schools follow; check your child's school assessment plan for exact dates and weightings.

G3 or G2 in Sec 2?

The two levels share most chapters. G2 Math reaches straight-line graphs in Sec 2 (G3 did them in Sec 1) and starts trigonometric ratios only in Sec 3, so a G2 student who moves up has those to catch up on. We keep G2 students on their school's pace for tests and show them where G3 goes next. The full comparison is in our parent guide to G2 Math under Full SBB.

How we teach Sec 2 Math

Sec 2 is where many students who coped in Sec 1 start to slip, because the algebra stops being one step long. Factorising, solving a quadratic and simplifying an algebraic fraction each need four or five correct moves in a row, and one slip loses the question. So we break every method into bite-sized steps, drill the routine cases until they are automatic, and only then stack the variations school papers use.

  1. 1

    The concept is introduced visually

Every new method is taught on the screen, step by step, so the student sees why it works before practising it.

  2. 2

    Students craft their own notes

Each student writes the method in their own words and style. Notes they wrote themselves are notes they will actually use in a test.

  3. 3

    Foundations through basic practice

Routine questions first, until the method is automatic. Only then do we stack the harder variations school papers use.

  4. 4

    Independent practice with guidance

Students work through questions in the format of their school's Weighted Assessments, with the tutor stepping in where marks are being lost.

Also included

  • Small physical classes of two hours, once a week, at Katong, Hougang Central or Opp Hougang CC.
  • Our own notes, worksheets and practice questions in the format of secondary school Weighted Assessments.
  • Personalised exam cheatsheets before each WA and the End-of-Year exam.
  • Help outside class: students can message their tutor with homework questions.
  • We follow MOE's order of topics. When a school teaches in a different order, we coach the extra topics in class before the test.

Sec 2 decides Sec 3: A-Math, and G2 to G3

Two things are settled on Sec 2 results. The first is A-Math. MOE leaves it to each school; the schools that publish a bar ask for a strong Sec 2 Math mark, and some set a grade cut-off. The algebra chapters are where that mark comes from.

The second is the level. A G2 student can be offered G3 Math at the end of Sec 2 on school results and the school's judgement. By then the G3 class is a year ahead in some topics, so the earlier the move, the smaller the gap.

What we see in class

For A-Math, we aim at the algebra chapters first: expansion and factorisation, quadratics and algebraic fractions are the whole of Sec 3 A-Math's first term in disguise. For a move up, we teach the G3 topics the student's G2 class has not reached, so the switch holds when it comes.

Planning a move up? WhatsApp us and we will tell you which topics to catch up on first.

The rules on starting levels and moving up are explained in our parent guide to G2 Math under Full SBB.

Starting Sec 2 in 2027? Lessons begin in November 2026

Our 2027 academic year starts in November 2026, after the school End-of-Year exams. It is the regular weekly Sec 2 class at the usual fee, not a separate programme.

We use November and December for expansion and factorisation, then algebraic identities and algebraic fractions: the algebra that decides WA1 and WA2. By the time school reaches them in Term 1, your child has already practised them. The class works for G3 and G2 students alike.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Sec 2 Math harder than Sec 1?

Because the algebra gets longer. Sec 1 algebra is mostly one step: expand, or solve a linear equation. Sec 2 asks for factorisation, quadratics and algebraic fractions, where each question is four or five correct moves in a row. Students who got by on memory in Sec 1 find that out at WA1. We build the method step by step so it holds under test conditions.

Is my child in a G3 class or a G2 class?

We take Sec 2 students at G3 and G2. Tell us the level on WhatsApp and we will place your child. Students taking Math at G1 join our G1 Math class.

Does Sec 2 Math decide whether my child can take A-Math?

Largely, yes. Schools decide on A-Math from Sec 2 results, and the ones that publish a bar ask for a strong Sec 2 Math mark. The algebra chapters are the ones to get right. Our parent guide explains what A-Math is and how schools choose.

Can my child still move from G2 to G3 Math in Sec 2?

Yes. Schools can move a student up at the end of Sec 2 on school results and the school's judgement. The G3 class will be ahead in some topics by then, so we also teach those to a student who is aiming to move.

When should my child start?

Before school does, if you can. Our 2027 Sec 2 classes start in November 2026 and cover the first algebra chapters in November and December, so Term 1 opens with revision rather than a cold start. Starting later is fine too; we place late starters in a class that has not moved far past their school.

Do you follow my child's school's order of topics?

Our syllabus follows MOE's order. Where a school teaches in a different order, we provide supplementary coaching in class as the test approaches. Our classes are small, so while other students practise, the tutor personally coaches any additional topics a student needs.

Can my child ask the tutor questions outside class?

Yes. Beyond the classes, our tutors answer homework questions and quick conceptual doubts online, in their own time, so a student stuck at home does not stay stuck until the next lesson.

How do I start?

WhatsApp us at 8042 6428 with your child's level, school and latest Math result. Trials are paid lessons by appointment at Katong, Hougang Central or Opp Hougang CC, and come with a written Post Trial Analysis & Feedback.
