Sec 3 A-Math Tuition in Singapore

Small Sec 3 A-Math classes at our Katong and Hougang centres, in a separate class from E-Math, at the A-Math pace. The first year of Additional Math is algebra that goes further than E-Math ever does, then logarithms and trigonometric identities. We teach every chapter in MOE's order, in the format your child's school tests use.

Who this class is for

  • Sec 3 students who have just started A-Math and found the first test a shock. The jump from Sec 2 Math to A-Math is the biggest in secondary school, and it is not a sign the subject is wrong for them.
  • Sec 3 students who want H2 Math at JC. JCs expect A-Math for it, and from the 2028 JC admissions the Math requirement is G3 Math or G3 A-Math at D7 or better.
  • Sec 3 students taking both subjects with us. Our Double Math bundle covers E-Math and A-Math in two separate classes.
  • Sec 2 students who have been offered A-Math and want to start before school does. Our 2027 Sec 3 A-Math class starts after the Sec 2 End-of-Year exams; WhatsApp us for the date.

What Sec 3 A-Math covers

Sec 3 A-Math (SEAB 4049 for G3, 4051 for G2; from 2027 the same content under SEC codes K341 and K232) spends the first half of the year on algebra beyond E-Math, then opens exponentials and logarithms, coordinate geometry of circles, and the trigonometric functions and identities that Sec 4 calculus relies on. Everything in Sec 3 is examined again in the national exam. We teach the chapters in this order, which matches MOE's sequence and the order most schools test them in.

  • Quadratic functions and equations
  • Inequalities and the discriminant
  • Surds
  • Polynomials and cubic equations
  • Partial fractions
  • The binomial theorem
  • Exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Coordinate geometry
  • Equations of circles
  • Linear law
  • Trigonometric functions and graphs
  • Solving trigonometric equations
  • Trigonometric identities and the R-formula

Schools set their own Weighted Assessments (WAs). The grouping above is how we prepare for them and matches the order most schools follow; check your child's school assessment plan for exact dates and weightings.

G3 or G2 A-Math?

G2 A-Math (the former N(A) A-Math) covers the main A-Math topics, leaves several out, and its two papers are shorter: 1 hour 45 minutes and 70 marks each, against 2 hours 15 minutes and 90 marks for G3. A student moving from G2 to G3 A-Math has extra topics to learn, not just harder questions. More in our parent guide to A-Math.

How we teach Sec 3 A-Math

A-Math fails students in a particular way: the algebra is one step longer than they are used to, and the marker gives nothing for a right idea with a wrong line. So our A-Math class runs separately from E-Math, at the A-Math pace, and we teach the working line by line, the way the exam marks it, from the first chapter.

  1. 1

    The concept is introduced visually

Every new method is taught on the screen, step by step, so the student sees why it works before practising it.

  2. 2

    Students craft their own notes

Each student writes the method in their own words and style. Notes they wrote themselves are notes they will actually use in a test.

  3. 3

    Foundations through basic practice

Routine questions first, until the method is automatic. Only then do we stack the harder variations school papers use.

  4. 4

    Independent practice with guidance

Students work through questions in the format of their school's Weighted Assessments and the national paper, with the tutor stepping in where marks are being lost.

Also included

  • A separate A-Math class of two hours, once a week, at Katong, Hougang Central or Opp Hougang CC. E-Math has its own class.
  • Our own notes for every chapter, in the order above, plus worksheets in the format of school papers.
  • Personalised exam cheatsheets before each WA and the End-of-Year exam, including the formulas that are not on the formula sheet.
  • Help outside class: students can message their tutor with homework questions.
  • Joining mid-year? After the trial lesson, our Post Trial Analysis & Feedback tells you which Sec 2 algebra gaps to close first.

Who takes A-Math, and why it matters after Sec 4

No MOE rule makes A-Math compulsory. Each school decides who takes it, from Sec 2 results: some offer it to every student taking G3 subjects, others set a mark or grade bar in Sec 2 Math. G2 A-Math exists too, and some schools offer it to G2 Math students with strong results.

It matters most for JC. From the 2028 admissions, every subject counted for JC must be G3, and the Math requirement is G3 Math or G3 A-Math at D7 or better. JCs expect A-Math for H2 Math. Poly courses list the requirement as Math or A-Math, so A-Math is not needed there.

What we see in class

When a student struggles in A-Math, the cause is usually a Sec 2 algebra gap: expansion, factorisation or algebraic fractions. We look for those in the first lessons and close them while the class moves on, because every later chapter stands on them.

Starting A-Math in 2027? Start before school does

Our 2027 academic year starts in November 2026, after the school End-of-Year exams. The Sec 3 A-Math class is the regular weekly class at the usual fee, not a separate programme; WhatsApp us for its start date.

It opens with quadratic functions and the discriminant: the chapters that decide WA1, and the ones that catch students who have never seen algebra at A-Math length. By the time school reaches them in Term 1, your child has already practised them.

Frequently asked questions

Is A-Math compulsory?

No. There is no MOE rule that makes it compulsory; each school decides who takes it from Sec 2 results. It is expected by JCs for H2 Math, and from the 2028 JC admissions the Math requirement is G3 Math or G3 A-Math at D7 or better. Poly courses accept either Math or A-Math.

Why is A-Math so much harder than Sec 2 Math?

Three things at once: the algebra runs longer, new objects appear (surds, logarithms, identities) and the marking gives nothing for a right idea with a wrong line. Students who were strong in Sec 2 often drop a grade in the first A-Math test. It is the biggest jump in secondary school, and it is normal. We teach the working line by line for that reason.

Do you teach A-Math and E-Math in the same class?

No. A-Math has its own class at the A-Math pace, and E-Math has its own. A student taking both with us is in two classes, covered by the Double Math bundle.

Is there G2 A-Math?

Yes. G2 A-Math (the former N(A) A-Math, SEC code K232 from 2027) covers the main A-Math topics with several left out, and its papers are shorter. Some schools offer it to G2 Math students with strong results. We teach it; tell us the level.

Which exam will my child sit?

Sec 3 students in 2026 are the first cohort to sit the SEC, in 2027, which replaces the O-Level. SEAB says the format and overall standard do not change. G3 A-Math is two papers of 2 hours 15 minutes and 90 marks each.

My child joined A-Math late and is behind. Can you help?

Yes. After the trial lesson, our Post Trial Analysis & Feedback tells you which Sec 2 algebra gaps are costing marks. We close those while the class moves on, because every later chapter stands on them.

Do you follow my child's school's order of topics?

Our syllabus follows MOE's order. Where a school teaches in a different order, we provide supplementary coaching in class as the test approaches.

How do I start?

WhatsApp us at 8042 6428 with your child's level, school and latest A-Math result. Trials are paid lessons by appointment at Katong, Hougang Central or Opp Hougang CC, and come with a written Post Trial Analysis & Feedback.
