AY2027 · Katong & Hougang

Our 2027 academic year starts in November 2026

2027 lessons begin in November, in your child’s weekly class, starting with the topics students find hardest. Every class is taught the same way, The Vigilante Method: we find what your child is really getting wrong, train the method until it is automatic, and rescue the grade on exam day.

How we teach

The Vigilante Method

We find what your child is really getting wrong, train the method until it is automatic, and rescue the grade on exam day.

Phase 1

Unmask

The problem isn't your child. We find what it really is.

Phase 2

Train

Understand the why, then do it the same way every time.

Phase 3

Rescue

Right under pressure, not just right at home.

What you will see, and when

What usually happens, not a promise.

Weeks 1 to 2

We find the problem

After the trial lesson, we tell you exactly which topics and which kinds of questions your child is losing marks on.

Weeks 3 to 6

Things start to make sense

Your child understands topics that used to confuse them. Homework gets easier. You will hear it from them first.

By the next WA

Marks go up

Usually within a term. After the test, we message you to say what improved and what we are working on next.

3 to 6 months

The grade changes

Steady improvement test after test, until the grade itself moves. The results page shows what that looked like for real students.

Fees and start dates

What your child starts with

Tap your child’s level in 2027.

Choose a level above to see the topics we start with and its fee.

G2 and G1 classes start with topics suited to their syllabus, at the same fee.

Why start 2027 in November?

No school pressure

No homework, tests or CCA in the holidays, so we can go in depth instead of rushing.

The hardest topics first

Skills that only stick with steady practice, not facts to memorise. Learnt properly now, they stay learnt.

A calmer Term 1

When school reaches these topics, your child has already practised them.

Fees, with nothing hidden

Per 4 lessons. Same rate for G3, G2 and G1. No GST.

Mr Zac Lai, Principal of Math Vigilante

Who teaches

Mr Zac Lai

Principal, Head of Curriculum

  • 10+ years of teaching, more than 600 students.
  • NUS Merit Scholar (top 1% of the cohort), double degree with First Class Honours.
  • Writes the notes and worksheets every Math Vigilante class uses, and our parent guides and exam answers.

Across more than a decade of teaching, we have developed strategies and notes that are adaptable and easy to understand. PSLE Math is about breaking questions down with models and story-telling; Secondary E-Math and A-Math are conquered with the right skillset and practice.

This isn’t a normal Math tuition centre. We were the first N-Level Math focus centre in Singapore, and that pedagogy helps weaker students in our O-Level classes too.

Questions

Questions parents ask

1Is the trial lesson free?

No, and here is why.

Our classes are small, so your child is not an extra seat in a big room. On trial day your child gets the same tutor, the same attention and the same notes and worksheets as every other student, and the tutor plans around your child from the first lesson.

A big centre can give away a free seat because one more child in a hall of forty changes nothing for them. For us, every seat is a real lesson.

So you pay the normal lesson fee, your child sits in a real class, and afterwards you get the written Post Trial Analysis & Feedback. You will know exactly where your child stands before you decide anything.

How a lesson runs →

2What is in the Post Trial Analysis & Feedback?

A short written note from the tutor after the trial: what your child does well, where the marks are leaking, and what we would work on first.

3My child is going to Sec 1 in 2027. Should we wait for the posting results?

No need. Our 2027 Sec 1 Math classes begin on Saturday 31 October 2026, straight after the PSLE break. G2 and G3 students learn together, so the level your child is posted to in December changes nothing. Our PSLE Score Calculator turns your child's marks into the likely score and posting group.

PSLE Score Calculator and Sec 1 posting guide →

4My child is in G2 or G1 (NA/NT). Is this for them?

Yes. Same fee as G3, and G2 and G1 classes start with topics suited to their syllabus. We were the first N-Level Math focus centre in Singapore, and our guide explains how schools move students from G2 to G3 Math.

G2 to G3 Math: how your child can move up →

5What is the SEC exam?

From 2027, the O-Level and N-Level become one exam, the SEC. The 2024 Sec 1 cohort sits the first SEC at the end of Sec 4 in 2027, graded G1, G2 or G3 by subject. Our parent guide explains it, with an L1R4 calculator for JC admission under the 2028 rules.

The SEC exam, explained →

6Does my child need A-Math?

It is not compulsory and not needed for poly, but JC H2 Math expects it in practice. It starts in Sec 3, so the decision comes at the end of Sec 2.

What is A-Math? A parent's guide →

7School just finished the year. Why start in November?

Because there is no homework, tests or CCA in the way, so we can go in depth on the hardest topics of the new level. When school reaches them in Term 1, your child has already practised them.

8Is there a deposit?

It depends on when your child enrols.

  • Enrolment before 1 January 2027:no deposit.
  • Enrolment from 1 January 2027:new families prepay four lessons.
That deposit pays for the final month when you give notice.
9Which branch should we choose?

Katong (Katong Shopping Centre) for the east; Hougang Central (806 Hougang Central) and opposite Hougang CC (Blk 19 Hougang Avenue 3) for the north-east. Tell us where you live and your child's level, and we will suggest the nearest class with a seat.
