How it works
Each subject gets an Achievement Level (AL) from 1 to 8, based on the marks. The PSLE Score is the four ALs added up: 4 is the best, 32 the worst. There is no pass mark for any subject or for the PSLE.
| AL | Marks |
|---|---|
| AL1 | 90 and above |
| AL2 | 85 to 89 |
| AL3 | 80 to 84 |
| AL4 | 75 to 79 |
| AL5 | 65 to 74 |
| AL6 | 45 to 64 |
| AL7 | 20 to 44 |
| AL8 | below 20 |
| Grade | Marks | Counts as |

| B | 30 to 74 | AL7 |
| C | below 30 | AL8 |

Secondary 1
The score sets the Posting Group, and the Posting Group sets the level most subjects start at. The groups replace the old streams: Posting Group 3 is the old Express range, 2 the old Normal (Academic), 1 the old Normal (Technical).

Two groups? Pick one for all six choices
A score of 21, 22 or 25 fits two groups. The one you pick applies to every school choice. If no choices are submitted, MOE assigns the more demanding group.
Not in any group
A score of 31 or 32, or 26 to 30 without AL7 in both English and Mathematics: the child can repeat the PSLE, or go to NorthLight or Assumption Pathway with the principal's endorsement. In 2025, 98.5% of the cohort was assessed suitable for secondary school.
Posting Groups only decide admission
They guide the starting levels in Sec 1. They do not fix a child's later subjects or pathways: levels can move up on school results.
Posting Group 1 options
Students in Posting Group 1 can also consider Crest or Spectra Secondary: apply to the school directly (a child admitted that way is not posted elsewhere), or list it among the six choices.
Starting higher
Under Full Subject-Based Banding, English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics and Science can each start one or two levels above the rest, based on that subject's PSLE AL. It is the family's choice, with the school's advice.
| Most subjects at | PSLE grade in that subject | Can take it at |

| G2 (Posting Group 2) | Standard AL5 or better | G3 |
| G1 (Posting Group 1) | Standard AL5 or better | G2 or G3 |
| G1 (Posting Group 1) | Standard AL6, or Foundation A | G2 |
Source: MOE, secondary school experience under Full SBB, updated 23 June 2026. The 2025 cohort: about 65% of students in Posting Groups 1 and 2 could take at least one subject at a higher level (MOE, 25 Nov 2025).
MOE's example: "a student with PSLE score of 23 (scoring AL5 for Mathematics) will be admitted through Posting Group 2 and take most subjects at G2 at the start of Secondary One. He/she can also take Mathematics at a more demanding level (i.e. G3 instead of G2)".
Our view: take G3 Math if it is offered
Sec 1 G3 and G2 Math share almost all their topics. In our Sec 1 classes, G2 and G3 students learn together, so a child who starts at G2 is ready if the school moves them up. And G3 Math is what JC asks for later. More in how students move from G2 to G3 Math.

Tue 24 or Wed 25 Nov 2026 (tentative), 11am: PSLE results
Collected at the primary school. MOE confirms the exact day about a week before, as it did on 18 November 2025.
11.30am on results day: S1 Portal opens
Submit up to six school choices in order, with Singpass. If the score fits two Posting Groups, pick the group first. Seven calendar days; closes at 4.30pm on the last day. In 2025 the window was 25 Nov to 1 Dec.
Fri 18 Dec 2026 (tentative), 9am: posting results
On the S1 Portal, by SMS and from the primary school. Then MOE publishes every school's 2026 cut-off on SchoolFinder.
After posting: appeals
Medical appeals go through the posted school, by 12pm on the next working day. Any other request for a transfer goes direct to the school you want, on that school's own process: it needs a vacancy and a score that meets its cut-off, and MOE advises against it.
Mon 4 Jan 2027: Sec 1 begins
Report to the posted school even if an appeal is pending. The 2027 school year runs to 19 November.

Cut-off points
MOE publishes each school's "PSLE score range" from last year's posting: the scores of the first and last student posted, per Posting Group. The cut-off point is the last student's score. It moves by about a point in a typical year, and meeting it does not guarantee a place.

PSLE score range of 2025 (the 2025 S1 Posting Exercise), MOE SchoolFinder, read 16 October 2026. Each cell: non-affiliated range, then the affiliated range in brackets where the school has one. "IP" = Integrated Programme track. Letters (D), (M), (P) = Higher Chinese grade of that student at SAP schools. "30*" = the school still had Posting Group 1 places. MOE publishes the 2026 ranges in December 2026. All schools: MOE SchoolFinder.
Posting
Score first, then three tie-breakers
Within a Posting Group, better scores get the places. For the last places at the same score, MOE applies, in this order:
1. citizenship (Singaporean, then PR, then international);
2. the order of your choices;
3. a computerised ballot.
Six choices, two or three of them safe
MOE's advice: fill all six, put the preferred schools higher, and include two or three schools whose cut-off is worse than your child's score.
Affiliation
An affiliated secondary school must be the first choice. Affiliated students are still ranked by score, and a place is not guaranteed. At least 20% of each Posting Group's places go to non-affiliated students. For a school with both IP and SEC tracks, affiliation counts for the SEC track only.
SAP schools and Higher Chinese
Open to anyone who took English and Chinese; Higher Chinese is not required. A Pass, Merit or Distinction in Higher Chinese with a score of 14 or better gives priority among students with the same score, before the tie-breakers. Students posted to a SAP school take Chinese or Higher Chinese.
Direct School Admission
A child admitted through DSA-Sec is placed before posting and does not submit choices. The DSA school must offer a Posting Group the child's score falls in.
No choices submitted?
The child is posted to a school with places left, by registered address, after everyone else. It may not be nearby.

Check
"65% is the new pass mark."
There is no pass or fail mark for any PSLE subject. AL6 starts at 45.
"Putting a school first gives bonus points."
No points. Choice order is only the second tie-breaker, after citizenship, when scores are equal.
"Meeting the cut-off means my child is in."
The cut-off is last year's last-posted score. It moves about a point a year, and tie-breakers decide the last places.
"A Foundation subject means Normal (Technical)."
Foundation A counts as AL6. MOE says children with Foundation subjects can qualify for Posting Group 2 or 3.
"Posting Group 2 means G2 for everything."
Any of English, Mother Tongue, Math or Science with AL5 or better can start at G3.
After the results
Our 2027 Sec 1 Math classes begin on Saturday 31 October 2026, straight after the PSLE break. G2 and G3 students learn together, so the level your child is posted to in December changes nothing.

Quick answers
Each of the four subjects (English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics, Science) gets an Achievement Level from AL1 (90 marks and above) to AL8 (below 20). The PSLE Score is the four ALs added together, from 4 (best) to 32. Foundation subjects are graded A, B or C and count as AL6, 7 or 8.
MOE does not rank scores as good or bad. A score of 4 to 20 puts a child in Posting Group 3, where every subject starts at G3 (the old Express level). In 2025, the most selective schools' cut-offs were in single digits. For most families, a good score is one that reaches the school and the subject levels the child wants.
The Express stream no longer exists. Its range is now Posting Group 3: a score of 4 to 20 starts every subject at G3. With 21 or 22, the family can choose Posting Group 3 (G3) or 2 (G2).
The three bands MOE uses to admit students to secondary school and set their starting subject levels. Posting Group 3 (score 4 to 22) starts at G3, Posting Group 2 (21 to 25) at G2, and Posting Group 1 (25 to 30) at G1; for 26 to 30, Posting Group 1 also needs AL7 or better in English and Mathematics. The groups map from the old Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) ranges.
MOE leaves it to the family, based on the child's learning pace. The group applies to all six school choices, and if nothing is submitted, MOE assigns Posting Group 3. A child in Posting Group 2 with AL5 or better in a subject can still take that subject at G3. Talk to the primary school teachers, and ask us about the Math side.
Yes, with AL5 or better in PSLE Mathematics. MOE's own example is a score of 23 with AL5 in Math: most subjects at G2, Math at G3 from the start of Sec 1. The same applies to English, Mother Tongue and Science.
Grade A (75 to 100 marks) counts as AL6, B (30 to 74) as AL7 and C (below 30) as AL8. The best possible score with one Foundation subject is 9. A child with Foundation subjects can still qualify for Posting Group 2 or 3.
No. The score adds only the four main subjects. Higher Mother Tongue is graded Distinction, Merit, Pass or Ungraded. A Pass or better with a score of 14 or better gives priority at SAP schools among students with the same score, and Distinction or Merit lets a child take Higher Mother Tongue in Sec 1.
MOE assigns a Mother Tongue AL between 6 and 8, so the child still has a four-subject score for posting.
The cut-off is the score of the last student posted to that school last year, per Posting Group. It can move by a point or so each year, and sometimes by two or three. Meeting it does not guarantee a place, because tie-breakers apply when students have the same score.
A child from an affiliated primary school gets priority at the affiliated secondary school if it is their first choice. Affiliated students are still ranked by score, and at least 20% of each Posting Group's places go to non-affiliated students. Some schools set extra criteria for their affiliated students. That is why a school's affiliated range is often much wider than its non-affiliated one.
MOE lists Tuesday 24 or Wednesday 25 November 2026, at 11am, as tentative. It confirms the day about a week before. In 2025 the results came out on 25 November.
Up to six, in order of preference, on the S1 Portal with Singpass. The portal opens at 11.30am on results day and closes at 4.30pm seven calendar days later. If the score fits two Posting Groups, pick the group first.
Friday 18 December 2026 (tentative), from 9am, on the S1 Portal and by SMS. In 2025 they came out on 19 December.
The child is not in any Posting Group. MOE's options are to repeat the PSLE, or to go to NorthLight School or Assumption Pathway School with the principal's endorsement.
They do not convert. The T-score ranked children against each other; an AL reflects marks against the syllabus. A 2020 T-score of 250 has no AL equivalent, so compare schools only by their AL ranges on SchoolFinder.
The same Sec 1 topics, with G2 skipping two of them until Sec 2. Our Sec 1 classes teach G2 and G3 students together, so a child posted at G2 covers the full G3 syllabus and is ready if the school moves them up. G3 Math is also the level JC admission asks for.
